Allison's Winter Wonderland

So much has been happening at Allison Wonderland! There was Thanksgiving and we gave Rhodie his first taste of turkey - needless to say it was a hit. The Christmas decorations went up prior to Thanksgiving because that day is just an excuse to eat a big meal and a free day off work. In other words, we don't care about Thanksgiving. We pretty much go from Halloween to Christmas here :D Rhodie continued his puppy level 1 classes through PetCo. He was the tiniest puppy there (see pic). He graduated on December 3. He's learning hand signals and speech commands, along with some cute tricks like spin, jumping through a hoop, and finding things under cups. He can sit, wait, and stay fairly well but struggles with "down." This command is used to have him lay down but he's far too interested in walking around, sniffing, and playing.  Puppies L to R: Phantom (standard Poodle), Rhodie (Boston Terrier), and Riley (Great Pyrenees) I've switched Rhodie's f...

Micro-chipping Your Pet

I'm a huge advocate for micro-chipping your pet. My 4 older dogs are micro-chipped already and Rhodie will get micro-chipped at his next vet visit. There's more to it than a "set it and forget it" mentality.  1. You MUST register your pet's microchip number but you do not have to maintain membership. Once registered - your pet will remain registered. 2. You MUST update pictures, information about your pet, your address, etc. 3. You WILL have access to your pet's account regardless of membership. I strongly recommend micro-chipping your pet. In my opinion, if you love your pet & really don't want to lose him/her - do everything in your power to proactively prevent it. But.........if you do not register your microchip number to input your information and your pet's, the microchip is nothing but a set of numbers that go nowhere.  4. So.... REGISTER IT!!!!!!!! * My Klaus & Vivi are with " Homeagain " - I persona...

Rhode-Eagle Has Arrived!

Rhodie received his vet checkup Tuesday (10/17) afternoon to get an "all-go" from his current vet. He left his home in Missouri at Eagle Valley Kennel and flew United from Springfield-Branson airport to Chicago O'Hare. He had a layover in Chicago and then hitched a new ride to Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional airport. He arrived on October 24 in the evening. I was crying for him before he was off the plane. Once home, he was greeted by rescues: Klaus, Egon, and Sookie, and fellow BT Vivi. An hour sniffing session ensued as he wandered about the house. We're now two days later and everything is going great! Slowly starting to potty train and "chew" train LOL! I did a small photo shoot for the BTs this evening - the sun was perfect and the weather cool. Our daughter Trinity is helping with the shoot. Introducing Rhodie

Rhodie (pronounced Roe-dee) is our newest addition to Allison Wonderland Boston Terriers. He was whelped in Missouri and his parents are Sammy and Flash. Rhodie is a chocolate and white male. He isn't on site yet - he's not quite 8 weeks yet. He's due to be shipped early next week. About the name....as with all of our dogs, there is a theme and/or story behind them. His full AKC name is Rhode-Eagle Sanchez of Allison Wonderland - well it will be when I get him and the paperwork to register him. Why the name? Rhode-Eagle is for two reasons: (1) My son Thade loves video games, gaming characters, and even has plans to grow up and develop video games (he's 8 btw and my husband is a software developer so....it's completely possible); anyway - he created a character and named it Road Eagle. So I'm naming the pup after his character and he's thrilled! (2) My husband and I watch the show Killing Fields . The show is about the Iberville Parish Police Depart...

Labor Day was Play Day!

Trinity took Egon and Vivi out in the front yard to play. Vivi had a blast! I got some great action shots of her running, jumping, and then of her just being adorable. Trinity getting ready to throw the ball Vivi running after the tennis ball Chilling for a bit after a successful search & rescue of the ball What a jump Vivi! Egon is quite heavier than V. Egon is a rescue from NC. Just a second later from the shot above All in all, the dogs had a very playful day today. They appreciated the nice weather since we had a lot of rain from Hurricane Harvey which devastated Texas.  Until next time folks....snuggle a Boston :D

The Rare Octobus

I took this picture of Vivi the morning of August 21, 2017 - Eclipse day! Why? I'd recently purchased the octopus hat plus I love taking pictures of my diva. I kept my animals inside during the eclipse, I checked my two youngest out of school, and my husband came home so we could all watch the eclipse together. Now...enjoy this rarely-captured-on-film sighting of an "octobos."

Vivi Had a Paw-dicure!

I painted Vivi's nails today! I frequently paint her nails (just her front 2 paws primarily). I admit I woke her up from a nap so she's still sleepy. Her & the canine crew were next to my back door when I took the pictures. They were hoping I'd let them out but it had just rained so....nope, they're going to have to wait a bit. * as always, click on pictures to enlarge Vivi in mid-stretch - pretty nails Vivi with Sookie & Egon behind her. I painted Sookie's today too Sleepy Vivi glaring out the window The color - a darker turquoise. Do you guys paint your dog's nails? What do you use? I also put a good top coat on after the color to help maintain the polish, since the dogs run, dig, etc. A good top coat makes the polish last a lot longer. Up-close of V's paw - ignore my terrible pedicure - I just had surgery & have been unable to go to the salon

Meet Vivi Nadine Jessica

Vivi is my 2nd Boston Terrier. Elsa, the one rescued from a puppy mill, came into my life when she was 2 years old. Already very skiddish, never been walked on a leash, and had a lot of what one might call PTSD in dogs. Sadly, Elsa became ill and 9 days later she died. I sent her body off for necropsy and the results were a cancerous brain tumor. I purchased Vivi 2 months later from a private breeder. It was love at first sight - isn't it always with BTs? I had the name Vivi chosen and picked the first name to pop into my head as her middle name. The "Jessica" came from my son. He's high-functioning autistic and ADHD and requested Jessica be put into her name - although primarly she's just Vivi Nadine. Here are some pictures of her over the 2 years I've had her. She has 3 "step-siblings" (as I like to call them) and those are rescues. Click on picture to enlarge Vivi in her holiday dress All four having a nap A little Vivi with...

Welcome to Life Down the Rabbit Hole

Hello all! Welcome to my blog about one of my greatest passions - dogs...and especially Boston Terriers. I am the proud owner of Vivi Nadine. She's my 2nd BT and quite the little diva. She has inspired me to create this blog. My first BT Elsa, was rescued from a puppy mill and was extremely skiddish and despised grown men and strangers in general. I got her when she was 2 years of age and sadly only had her a year before she passed from a cancerous brain tumor. Within months I purchased Vivi. She was a perfect ball of BT goodness. Vivi - a few days after I got her and a couple weeks before Halloween 2015 Vivi's father Cash, had one blue eye so V carries the blue-eye gene. Of course this began as a random mutation, just like all blue eyes. Her birthday is August 25, 2015. She's coming up on her 2nd birthday. Her temperament is perfect! She's very social, loves people, plays excitedly with other dogs - she has 3 "step-siblings." We take her to dog par...
